If your transmission is shifting too soon it can really rob your car of power and acceleration. If it is shifting too late it can be very loud and annoying and even affect fuel economy. Adjusting the shift points is a very easy procedure on most older Mercedes that use a Bowden cable to change the internal control pressure inside the transmission.

In this video Kent uses a 124 chassis 300E to explain what the Bowden cable does and how to adjust it properly. He even shares some other "secrets" that can improve your throttle response and transmission shifts. The adjustment procedure shown in this video is specific to the 124, 126 and 201 chassis with the 6 cylinder 103 gas engine. The principles will apply to other Mercedes models (including diesels) with a flexible cable running from the throttle linkage to the transmission.
