Who has those in their toolbox?? Even if you did, trying to get up above the rear axle with a big, clunky 3/4 ratchet to remove the screen can be an exercise in total frustration and failure.

I have solved that problem by creating a special socket that only requires a 17 mm socket or long box-end wrench to turn it. And this design makes it much easier to work in the tight confines above your rear end. Please note: This does not work on 300TD wagons. PLEASE NOTE: You will receive one of the following sockets. Don't be alarmed if the one you receive looks different from the one in the picture above. They appear slightly different, but both work the same. To make this tool, we cut a big, deep socket in half to make two tools, as shown below. Both have 17mm bolts welded at the top. This lets you use a socket or box-end wrench to remove the fuel tank screen.
